SUMMARY:Celebrate Our Waters Reception\, Exhibition and Book signing
DESCRIPTION:Join artists and friends for a casual reception and exhibition of new paintings inspired by the shores and waters of Cape Cod. \nBook signing with Susan Anarino\, author of 365 Cape Cod Ponds\, Day by Day. “Once I discovered that Cape Cod had 365 ponds I vowed to see if this was true. I found the magic under snow draped pines\, beneath squawking seagulls\, beside bandstands and in rainy woods. There I encountered swans\, herons\, boat parades and a little fisher girl. Some have hiking trails\, some herring runs\, some swimming beaches\, some are stocked with trout and some are home to egrets\, dragonflies and snapping turtles. I promise if you stand waterside\, breathe in the beauty and wait\, something magical will happen. This book\, complete with photos\, while written chronologically\, can be read as individual entries depending on the time of year or your preference.”

SUMMARY:Celebrate Our Waters Painting Event
DESCRIPTION:Watch award-winning painters as they create work inspired by the shores of Orleans. Plein air\, French for “open air\,” describes paintings created outdoors. French Impressionists\, including Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir\, advocated en plein air painting. Charles Webster Hawthorne\, who is attributed with starting the art colony in Provincetown\, came to Cape Cod to teach painting en plein air. The public is invited to come and watch as adults and children alike are enthralled by seeing a painting move from a sketch to a finished piece\, and delighted to meet accomplished artists.

SUMMARY:Josephine Del Deo: The Dune Shacks
DESCRIPTION:Josephine Breen Del Deo will speak on the legacy of the dune shacks at the Province Lands Visitors Center\, 171 Race Point Road\, Provincetown. Del Deo has lived in Provincetown since 1953 (with her husband\, the painter Salvatore Del Deo) where she has been engaged in significant community activity\, including her participation in preserving over 3\,000 acres of the state-owned Province Lands for inclusion in the Cape Cod National Seashore Park. Working tirelessly to preserve environmental and historic legacies\, Del Deo provides a rare perspective. She will also be signing her latest book\, The Watch at Peaked Hill\, about the dune shack community. These diminutive abodes have long attracted artists\, writers\, and naturalists longing to escape the hectic hubbub of their day-to-day lives. She brings this history to life\, setting it in the context of larger events and populating it with the interesting\, often eccentric characters who have lived on the dunes.
