SUMMARY:Swooping In for Wild Care
DESCRIPTION:Artists from across the Cape and beyond are joining the Addison Art Gallery in support of Wild Care. Spearheaded by artists SaraJane Doberstein and Amy Sanders\, and Helen Addison\, Swooping in for Wild Care includes an exhibit of new works by gallery and invited artists\, demonstrations from 3:00 to 4:30 and a reception from 5 to 7\, live music\, book signings and a raffle. \nEducational animals planning to attend include two Eastern Screech Owls\, Up Up and Nickerson\, and Turtle #45\, an Eastern Box Turtle. More information about these four-legged and feathery friends can be found here: https://www.wildcarecapecod.org/programs-events/animal-ambassador/ \nSaraJane Doberstein will be demonstrating the various techniques she brings together to create her backgrounds and foregrounds. Her preliminary oil sketch will be visible as she works directly over it. This will also show the editing and possible composition changes that occur during the painting process. These techniques will include combining glazing and layering with an alla prima approach using walnut alkyd medium. She will be working from photo references on a 16×20 inch linen paint board. \nJoin Amy Sanders to discover the secret to building depth and luminosity with pastel as I work toward bringing a painting to life through the building up of multiple layers. Pastel is a unique medium\, in that the pigment particles retain their individuality within layers. If carefully layered using strokes in a variety of colors\, weights and direction\, light bounces among the particles creating a unique radiance that is the hallmark of the medium. Questions\, comments and conversation of all things pastel are encouraged.

SUMMARY:Andrea Petitto One Woman Show
DESCRIPTION:“Figural work is my passion because of the evocative nature of body language and form. A level of abstraction in the figure allows the viewer to experience the emotional impact in a universal way\, without concern for a specific identity. Brush or knife strokes are more important to me than representational detail. I like the tension between the sense of paint and surface on one hand and the illusion of form and depth on the other. I try to make my subject matter look like it’s been chiseled from stone and yet alive and breathing\, a contrast that I find beautiful and exciting.” — Andrea Petitto

SUMMARY:Celebrate Our Waters Reception\, Exhibition and Book signing
DESCRIPTION:Join artists and friends for a casual reception and exhibition of new paintings inspired by the shores and waters of Cape Cod. \nBook signing with Susan Anarino\, author of 365 Cape Cod Ponds\, Day by Day. “Once I discovered that Cape Cod had 365 ponds I vowed to see if this was true. I found the magic under snow draped pines\, beneath squawking seagulls\, beside bandstands and in rainy woods. There I encountered swans\, herons\, boat parades and a little fisher girl. Some have hiking trails\, some herring runs\, some swimming beaches\, some are stocked with trout and some are home to egrets\, dragonflies and snapping turtles. I promise if you stand waterside\, breathe in the beauty and wait\, something magical will happen. This book\, complete with photos\, while written chronologically\, can be read as individual entries depending on the time of year or your preference.”

SUMMARY:Celebrate Our Waters Painting Event
DESCRIPTION:Watch award-winning painters as they create work inspired by the shores of Orleans. Plein air\, French for “open air\,” describes paintings created outdoors. French Impressionists\, including Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir\, advocated en plein air painting. Charles Webster Hawthorne\, who is attributed with starting the art colony in Provincetown\, came to Cape Cod to teach painting en plein air. The public is invited to come and watch as adults and children alike are enthralled by seeing a painting move from a sketch to a finished piece\, and delighted to meet accomplished artists.

SUMMARY:Celebrating Edward Hopper's Legacy on Cape Cod
DESCRIPTION:After Hopper honors the legacy of Edward Hopper by celebrating contemporary artists inspired by his work and the places he painted with an emphasis on Cape Cod. In 1930\, Edward Hopper and his wife Jo spent their first summer on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Having traveled through many states and France\, they built their home here on a bluff overlooking Cape Cod Bay. \nHopper is considered America’s greatest realist painter. His unforgettable images\, infused with emotion\, speak of history and progress\, the buildings we inhabit\, our natural environment\, and people we may encounter. He inspires us to delve beyond the mere visual enabling each viewer to respond with his or her own stories and feelings — the walk in a wind-swept dune\, the family home on the bay\, the gas station owner once again filling a tank.

SUMMARY:Olivier Suire Verley One Man Show Reception
DESCRIPTION:When one imagines Olivier’s paintings\, it immediately brings to mind the true meaning of the French phrase\, “joie de vivre.” Spanning the world from Morocco to Rome\, Egypt to Venice\, Mr. Verley’s works inspire and capture the essence of his subjects\, be it horses and their Moroccan riders going full gallop across the plains or a farmer captured in a field of ruby drenched poppies. His paintings have the capacity to energize and evoke feelings of desiring to be there…in that place\, experiencing all the possibilities of life. — Tom and Trish O’Connor

SUMMARY:Cleber Stecei One Man Show Reception
DESCRIPTION:Born in Brazil in 1976\, Cleber Stecei began experimenting with abstract painting as a teenager. After arriving in the United States at the age of 19\, he became inspired by the beautiful New England scenery and has since excelled in landscape painting. \nCleber has a great appreciation for realistic portrayals of the human form\, as well as the spontaneous brush work of a plein air painting\, and he carefully tries to combine those qualities in his work. \nStecei’s work is done both from photographic references and on location (en plein air)\, allowing him to respond to the effects of natural light and atmosphere. \nStecei is a member of the Cape Cod Art Association and his work has been awarded numerous times\, including a Best in Show. Since showing at the Addison Art Gallery\, his work has enthralled collectors as well as judges and has been featured in respected regional and national art publications. \n“A Master in the Making…represented by one of the Cape’s most prestigious galleries\, Addison Art in Orleans. Cleber Stecei paints weekly with the highly regarded Cape artist Paul Schulenburg. \nStecei’s reputation as a landscape artist has been rising like a mellow tide that is still building. His work has been noted in several national art publications and his paintings are in collections country-wide. Stecei’s talent\, age\, and new presence in the market have thrust him to the heady upper echelons of the art scene—all in less than 18 months.”—Mary Grauerholz\, Cape Cod Life
