SUMMARY:'Tis the singing\, signing season
DESCRIPTION:Art show\, book signing and reception with a special guest for The Family Pantry. We hope you can join us in a toast to this most worthy organization. Mrs. Claus will be on hand to greet kids of all ages from 4:00 to 6:00 and American Idol finalist Natalia Bonfini will perform from 5:00 to 7:00. Wine\, nibbles and a chance to meet the artists will add to the festivities. \nHunger on Cape Cod and the Family Pantry\nMany find the depth of food insecurity on Cape Cod hard to believe. When you look at the cost of living vs. the lack of lucrative employment opportunities\, one must acknowledge the need. Two thirds of the clients who come to The Family Pantry have at least one person in the household working; often there are two people employed. \nThe Family Pantry is a non-profit\, non-denominational organization with over 650 volunteers and a small\, paid staff. In 2022\, the organization distributed over 130\,000 bags of groceries and 35 tons of gently used clothing. The Family Pantry partners with the Greater Boston Food Bank to support the 28 pantries/soup kitchens on the Cape and Islands. \nFamilies/Individuals are welcome to return to the Pantry every 10 days for food and clothing. The Family Pantry is a choice pantry which means each client selects the products they want. A large selection of healthy foods including cheese\, eggs\, fresh produce as well as the canned and packaged food products are offered. \nPerhaps the star of the weekend\, Mrs. Claus (Bev Fuller) has been spreading good\, old-fashioned cheer for two decades. While little ones can be afraid of Santa Claus\, it’s heartwarming to see how they brighten up around his grandmotherly wife. \nAuthor Dr. Michael Pregot has spent over a half of a century in the field of education. He has served as a Modern Language teacher\, high school principal\, school superintendent\, professor of education and University Director of an Educational Leadership Department. \nNow a researcher and chronicler\, he will be signing Slavery and Abolitionism on Cape Cod and Sea Captains of Cape Cod\, each an opportunity to explore the intriguing people that came before us on this land. \nFrom the era of the Puritans right through to the end of the Revolutionary War\, Boston was a central hub for the slave trade. Slaves were brought on board ships from the African coast with regularity\, often mastered by Cape Cod Sea captains. The number of slaves per household was much smaller in the Northeast as compared to the South\, yet a larger labor force was desired. \nCape Cod has long been a focal point of our country’s maritime activities from the very beginning of the pre-colonial period\, through our wars with England\, into the great age of sail\, right into our current preoccupation with protecting the right whale and announcing shark alerts. Sea captains from every town have distinguished themselves by opening new harbors for trade\, participating in naval excursions\, and demonstrating a pragmatic genius with their nautical skills. \nMoving to fiction. . . \nJeannette de Beauvoir is an award-winning author of historical and mystery fiction as well as of poetry\, whose work has appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies. She is a member of the Authors Guild\, the Mystery Writers of America\, Sisters in Crime\, and the Historical Novels Society. She’s is an admired theatre critic and host of an arts program on WOMR\, a Pacifica Radio affiliate. \nProvincetown is the setting for a series of mysteries solved by protagonist Sydney Riley. Her reluctant hobby\, however\, has become murder. With help from best friend Mirela and boyfriend Ali\, she solves the crimes with a self-deprecating sense of humor.\nThe mystery is a part of the book\, but learning about the people\, the landmarks\, the culture\, and also important social issues makes her books wonderful (and just like Ms. Leon does with Venice). One is transported to Commercial Street or the Stop & Shop\, even the Methodist Thrift Store when reading her books. \nFor more information on The Family Pantry visit https://www.thefamilypantry.com\nFor more information on the benefit\, and/or additional images\, please contact Helen Addison at helen@addisonart.com or 508.255.6200.

SUMMARY:Art and Artists for Cape Cod Foster Children
DESCRIPTION:Everyone is invited to join us in a toast to the Cape Cod Foster Closet\, a most worthy organization. Live music by master jazz guitarist Fred Fried\, wine and nibbles will add to the fun. \nChildren frequently enter foster care with no belongings\, or with a trash bag containing nothing that even belongs to them. \nThe Cape Cod Foster Closet provides free\, new and nearly-new clothing\, shoes\, outerwear\, school supplies\, baby gear\, and more for local children (newborn to 18) who are being raised by someone other than their biological parent. From their storefront in Orleans\, Foster Closet volunteers cover the Cape and Islands providing critically needed supplies\, as well as community connection\, information on other services\, and a listening ear\, for often uniquely isolated caregivers. \n“It truly takes a village!” says Co-founder and Program Director Sharon Palmer. “We are very grateful to Helen Addison for helping to increase awareness of the numbers of children in care on the Cape and Islands and for hosting this event to help ensure that we can continue to support local foster and relative caregiver families.” \nFor more information on the Cape Cod Foster Closet visit capecodfostercloset.org.\nFor more information on the benefit\, and/or additional images\, please contact Helen Addison at helen@addisonart.com or 508.255.6200.

SUMMARY:Beyond Bohemia at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater
DESCRIPTION:Join artists and friends celebrating the Beyond Bohemia exhibition. \nCape Cod’s naturally spectacular environment and cultural community continuously draw people from across the globe. As John Taylor Williams wrote\, this was true over 100 years ago as well. “Beginning around 1910\, those dedicated to radical political reform\, a new exploration of personal relationships free from Victorian strictures\, and a search for the new ‘American’ voice in writing\, painting\, architecture\, and theater congregated . . .” —The Shores of Bohemia\, A Cape Cod Story\, 1910-1960 \nHonoring this history and celebrating contemporary creators\, the Addison Art Gallery developed “Beyond Bohemia”—multi-media efforts including art exhibitions\, book signings\, panels\, music\, and plein air gatherings. Work by dozens of artists from across the United States and abroad are being shown in changing exhibits. \nCape Cod has long offered a plethora of opportunities for these diverse endeavors. “Few travelers are experts in American history or architecture\, in geology\, Atlantic coast fishing\, the modern theater\, antiques\, painting and marine biology. And yet when you visit the Cape all these are at hand\, tied up in a tight\, neat piece of country smelling of pine and offered you at the Canal Bridge like a prize box. There is so much packed into a small space in that magnificent yet cozy world called Cape Cod that fires the imagination. You want to know a lot of things\, all kinds of things on sea and land.” —Down Cape Cod by Katherine Dos Passos and Edith Shay (written in 1936)

SUMMARY:Maryalice Eizenberg One Woman Show
DESCRIPTION:Demonstration at 4:00; reception 5:00 to 7:00 \nMaryalice Eizenberg is an award-winning artist\, raised surrounded by a family of musicians supportive of her interest in the visual arts. She has been drawing and painting all of her life. She completed coursework at the Worcester and Springfield Fine Arts museums\, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Clark University\, and studied with painters John Cosby\, Donald Demers\, Kim English\,Daniel Keys\, Gregg Kreutz\, Joseph Paquet\, and Charles Sovek. Dramatic patterns of light and color are what attract her most to a subject. It is her emotional response to these elements that she strives to share with the viewer. \nEizenberg has been featured in Cape Cod Life and Chatham magazines and “The Creative Spirit\, Art in Chatham’s Old Village.” Her work also appears in Contemporary Cape Cod Artists: People and Places by Deborah Forman.\nShe teaches at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham\, and is a member of Oil Painters of America\, and Twenty One in Truro. Her work has been shown in museums on and off the Cape. Her work is held in private collections in the United States\, Europe and Japan. \n“Realism that excites has a foundation in abstraction of design. A pattern of light that makes form\, saturates color and creates mood holds it together and tells a story. It is the story that is the bond between the artist and the audience.” —Maryalice Eizenberg

DESCRIPTION:For details on this special event and reservations\, please email helen@addisonart.com or call 508.255.6200. Thank you. \n“For my 2024 American exhibition\, I retraced my intimacy with nature and\, in particular\, with trees. The Covid period was conducive to new inspirations. There are expanses of swamps and forests around me which have been my model and\, of course\, the sea which caresses my island. It is the power and the architecture\, the movement\, the wind in the trees\, of the conifers\, which are the basis of much of my work. This does not exclude the human presence which is so dear to me. The use of blue evokes for me sobriety\, inner peace\, renewal\, oxygen\, maturity\, light.” —Olivier Suire Verley

SUMMARY:Olivier Suire Verley Returns!
DESCRIPTION:“For my 2024 American exhibition\, I retraced my intimacy with nature and\, in particular\, with trees. The use of blue evokes for me sobriety\, inner peace\, renewal\, oxygen\, maturity\, light.” \nOlivier Suire Verley was born October 2\, 1952 in La Rochelle (on the Atlantic coast of France\, a historic site of religious war between Protestants and Roman Catholics in the XVIIth century) to a family of artists. His grandfather Louis Suire was a renowned painter (Olivier added his mother’s maiden name\, Verley to his father’s name so as not to be confused with his grandfather\, whom he cherished and admired) and his father Claude (now retired) was a publisher of art books and is an amateur painter himself. \nOlivier studied in La Rochelle first\, then in Tours with Jean Abadie. Moving to Paris\, he also studied etching with Pierre Gandon\, Albert Decaris and Caillevaert Brun. Of a surrealistic tendency\, the themes of his paintings of the time were based upon evasion from reality\, fantastic travels and the sea. During that period\, the colors in his palette were dark and melancholic. He illustrated texts by Cliford Simac and Asimov for the publisher Louis Pauwels. \n1982 marked a profound change in Olivier’s inspiration: as by a refining process\, it turned to become a quest for the essentiality in life\, leading the artist to discover the salutary power of color. From that time onwards\, his themes also changed; landscapes\, still lifes\, portraits and again\, the ever-present sea — the sea of Île de Ré — a small island off La Rochelle. He left Paris definitively and settled on that island\, where he lives and works today. \nSince then\, his inspiration has drawn first from the colors of the holiday season in Île de Ré and on the Atlantic coast of France; then from those of Paris streets in winter or at night\, and more recently from the light of Morocco and Spain. Today\, Olivier seeks to meditate again on evasion\, the elsewhere of our dreams\, of our regrets sometimes\, and of our hopes forever. \nAlways looking for new lights\, Olivier travels often: Italy (Rome\, Venice)\, Japan\, China\, Morocco\, Spain\, Egypt\, Mauritius\, Cambodia\, Vietnam\, Laos\, etc. \nHe shows throughout France\, Spain\, in China\, Japan and\, in the United States\, exclusively at the Addison Art Gallery. His work is featured multiple books and films. \nMusic by Fred Fried. Acclaimed for his pianistic style\, harmonic depth and originality\, 8-string master Fried is among the best of today’s modern jazz guitarists.

SUMMARY:Jonathan Earle One Man Show
DESCRIPTION:Oil painting demonstration at 4:00; reception 5:00 to 7:00 \nJonathan Earle was born on Cape Cod in 1971. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts with a degree in landscape architecture\, he spent 20 years in architectural and construction management. As his career path moved him further and further away from expressing his ideas with pencil and paper\, he returned to his true passion\, painting. \n“Creating a sense of place — the experience or emotions associated within a familiar setting — in the landscape is at the core of landscape architecture. It is this principle that I draw upon when painting\, the dimension that is formed by people’s relationship with their physical setting\, whether an actual figure in the painting or the viewer. I aim to capture the emotion and energy of that place\, whether it be the energy of a crowded street or the potential energy of idle traffic at a stoplight\, both evoke emotion and feeling for a place.” \nJonathan is a member of the Cape Cod Art Association\, where his work has received numerous Best in Show awards\, and The Arnold Coleman Award. His works have also received top awards from various other art organizations. Jonathan lives in Sandwich with his wife and two children.

SUMMARY:Beyond Bohemia at the Wellfleet Public Library
DESCRIPTION:Plein air painting starting at 8:00 am; reception 5:00 to 6:30. Please email helen@addisonart.com to participate and/or to to attend. Thank you. Work by dozens of artists from across the United States and abroad will be shown in changing exhibits. You want to know a lot of things\, all kinds of things on sea and land.” —Down Cape Cod by Katherine Dos Passos and Edith Shay (written in 1936) \nThis lively day of events includes a book signing by poet Jim Zola whose latest book\, “It’s Unremarkable that will Last”\, features a Paul Schulenburg painting as its cover\, from 4:00 to 5:00. \nReception from 5:00 to 6:30.
