SaraJane will demonstrate painting from printed photos and digital images showing a variety of techniques and mediums combined into one painting. Some sections will be done alla prima while others involve glazing. (Alla prima is a technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint.

Paul Schulenburg is an internationally collected artist whose work has shown in the Hopper House Museum, twice in solo shows at the Cape Cod Museum of Art, and in many group exhibitions at CCMA, Provincetown Art Association and Museum, and Cahoon Museum of American Art. He has appeared over a dozen times in respected national art publications including on the cover of American Art Collector. Schulenburg is a first place prize-winning Copley artist, a juried member of Oil Painters of America and was commissioned by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to create a portrait of museum trustee Eliot Forbes.
I will demonstrate how I begin and develop a painting using brushes and palette knives at various stages of the work, and the use of knife strokes to create texture, to blend colors on the canvas, and to express line and mass. This is a course for oil or acrylic painters. The course will focus on finding a strong composition in an outdoor landscape and how to orchestrate values and colors to create a compelling painting.
