SaraJane will demonstrate painting from printed photos and digital images showing a variety of techniques and mediums combined into one painting. Some sections will be done alla prima while others involve glazing. (Alla prima is a technique in which layers of wet paint are applied to previously administered layers of wet paint.
I will demonstrate how I begin and develop a painting using brushes and palette knives at various stages of the work, and the use of knife strokes to create texture, to blend colors on the canvas, and to express line and mass. Using a palette knife to paint introduces a whole range of textures and strokes that contributes to a masterful sense of paint handling. Influenced by the Impressionists, starting with blocks of color, Susan Overstreet will demonstrate her unique orchestration of brushwork. Weather permitting, Susan will be demonstrating on the grounds of Highland Light.
Steve Kennedy will talk about the influence of Edward Hopper on Outer Cape artists and demonstrate plein air principles of design, color and paint application.
Using pastels, Linda will demonstrate her methods of capturing the natural landscape around the Highland House.
